Tatting Christmas Cards

A tatted Christmas card

I’ve been working on various tatted motifs and trim that would look Christmassy done in red, green and white.

This evening I went to Hobby Lobby looking for shiny little sequins, bells, beads and ribbons to make the cards look more festive.  But when I got home and started arranging the motifs and edging on cards, I realized that, at least to my eyes, the plain tatting is more beautiful.  Adding shiny things to it seems to detract from rather than enhance it.

Pictured is one motif and edging that I especially like.  I’ve done others that I’m not as pleased with.  So I will probably do more of this design, then do some Christmas tree patterns.

It was 100 degrees again today.  Summer isn’t giving up easily.  Making Christmas cards in an air conditioned house helps put me in a delicious crisp weather frame of mind!  🙂

Snowed In & Pink Tatted Valentine Heart

This rural area of Georgia is so unprepared for snow that our mail still isn’t running.  Such an odd experience for us.  Also we use Verizon cell service for our phones and computers, and the signals have been abysmal lately.  I’ve given up on trying to make calls, which adds to our sense of isolation.

The snow has crusted over, so Sunny will go outside to do his business again.  Nice to not have to carry him outside every time he needs to go!

Last night I tatted this sweet little pink and ecru heart for a Valentine’s Day card for my mother.  It’s a very easy beginner pattern, from Learn to Tat by Janette Baker.

I liked it so well that I am doing another one in red and ecru.

Colors of Late Autumn

Our back yard November 14

I took this photo of my back yard a few minutes ago.    We did not have brilliant red and gold fall colors here this year.  But the stunning beauty in the infinite variety of rich browns made me gasp.  What a gift!

I am still not well, but am not feeling awful anymore.  Ron is antsy to head south, so we plan to leave tomorrow.  We’ll just drive a little way and hole up at a pretty campsite for a couple of days, then meander on down to Florida.

We will probably camp in campgrounds for a few more days until my symptoms are gone then go to Mom’s house for a few days.  I definitely don’t want to pass these germs on to my family!

My brother in law is going in for surgery Tuesday.  I do so regret that I can’t visit with him before he goes into the hospital.  I may not be able to visit him while he’s there.  I will just have to wait and see how fast I make a full recovery.
