We have decided to leave for Florida Wednesday. That way we can take our time cleaning the camper and getting it packed, bathe the dog, and spiff up the house so we come back to a clean home.

Snowed In & Pink Tatted Valentine Heart

This rural area of Georgia is so unprepared for snow that our mail still isn’t running. Such an odd experience for us. Also we use Verizon cell service for our phones and computers, and the signals have been abysmal lately. I’ve given up on trying to make calls, which adds to our sense of isolation.
The snow has crusted over, so Sunny will go outside to do his business again. Nice to not have to carry him outside every time he needs to go!
Last night I tatted this sweet little pink and ecru heart for a Valentine’s Day card for my mother. It’s a very easy beginner pattern, from Learn to Tat by Janette Baker.
I liked it so well that I am doing another one in red and ecru.

Beginner Shuttle Tatting Project
Beginner shuttle tatting on Christmas card
TA DAH!!!!! My beginner shuttle tatted Christmas tree is completed.
I am so thrilled! It’s far from perfect, but a few weeks ago I would have never dreamed that I would be able to shuttle tat at all!
I also got my order with Aero shuttles and bobbins and two SewMate shuttles to try today. Needless to say, I am playing with my new toys tonight!
Oh, the red flowers are supposed to be poinsettias. 😀
Oops, I forgot to add that the Christmas tree pattern is a free pattern from be-stitched.com.

A Needle Tatted Fan Motif

Just a quick post to show off last night’s project — a fan motif.
I had to start over three times because I kept getting my work turned around and joining to the wrong ring. And I had to rip out a stretch because I refused to start over a fourth time.
But I finally got it done! I am thrilled that even beginner projects can turn out pretty!

Little Girl’s Purse

I finally finished the little purse tonight.
I had a hard time finding appropriate beginner edging patterns. Finally I found a pattern on one of the needle tatting forums. Then I saw this really cool picture on Flickr of bunny ears edging. So I managed to adapt it to work on my project.
I looked and looked for a cat pattern for the back pocket that would work up small enough on beginner size 10 thread and size 5 (* see note at end) needles, but couldn’t find one I liked. So I made one up that looks a lot like the cats I used to draw in first grade.
Hopefully the recipient won’t be too critical.
I did sew everything down very firmly so whoever gets it will have to work hard at tearing the flowers off!
That’s it for the crafts for a few days. I need a break!
Will start repairing the weather stripping on the Aliner next week. Some of it has come loose.
*Edited to add: I thought I was using size 5 needles. I was actually using size 3 which is for light sports yarn. No wonder the stitches were so loose!
