Winter Really Is Over!

The little van and screen house on West point Lake

I finally made it out camping! After losing my reservations last weekend, I decided to wing it this time. I stopped at Whitetail Ridge only to discover that they were booked solid. So I drove another 20 minutes and was able to get into R. Shafer Heard for 2 nights. Not the 3 I’d hoped for.

But as unexpectedly brisk and chilly as the wind turned out to be, I didn’t mind leaving a day early and waiting for balmier weather. At least, a few spring flowers assured me that winter really was over, even though it wasn’t warm enough to sit outside. Until today when I was leaving!

See, spring finally arrived!
The van got decorated with yellow pine pollen, in case I missed the fact that spring is here.

Since brisk walks were our only outings, I entertained myself cooking inside the van.

This was a chicken and everything-in-the-refrigerator curry.

We watched geese, a big grey heron, ducks, and a hawk (not an osprey) dive for fish. It was the first time I had seen a hawk fish!

I really miss the old WordPress editor where I could intersperse small photos and have the text wrap around it. Maybe I still can, when I get used to this new one.

I plan to head out again as soon as being outdoors is comfortable.

Now– to get busy on Casita repairs and maintenance so Ron and I can go camping together!

Your post looks beautiful, Sharon! So happy you got out to camp. Mikkey indeed looks very royal – you are fortunate to have such a regal companion.

We are in Texas, and our truck is filthy with pollen. Finding a car wash is definitely on the agenda in the next few days.

    Camp on!

    • Thank you, Judy. But see what I mean? Campsite, dog, flowers. Imagine that! 😂

I hope you are warm. And good luck on finding a car wash. Do have lots of fun and make lots of forever memories!

    • I was really surprised to discover how well that itsy bitsy van had everything I really needed. I took a roundabout route back home, and that was special, too. Lovely scenery!

    • What a great welcome back! Glad the info on the solar helped. I am taking photos with an inexpensive phone and probably need to take my better camera with me. But I feel like I am just sharing snapshots with friends so don’t worry about it too much.

    • I have reservations for this weekend. Hope the predicted rain isn’t so bad it keeps me inside the van the whole time. When I made the reservations, the long range prediction was for beautiful weather. Oh well! 😁

    • Gerri! How wonderful to hear from you! Yes, it has been a long time. But I had started to miss blogging, so I figured the new van would be a good place to pick it up again.

I have reservations for 3 nights at McKinney starting Sunday — but I am having electrical problems with the van! Hope I can get it fixed tomorrow. It would be so sad to have to cancel reservations again.

I would love to catch up on what has happened in your corner of the world the last 3 years. Thanks again for stopping by to say hello!

    • Gerri, I tried to comment on your blog, but it didn’t go through. I am so sorry to hear about Mike’s health problems. I will pray for a full recovery and look forward to seeing you out in the Ollie before too long. And I loved your garden pictures!
