PROGRESS!

Low carbing has given me a whole new lease on life!

Today my blood pressure was down to 122/79.  Normal!!!!  My fasting blood glucose is running between 98 and 106!

And I’ve lost 9 pounds.

I can’t wait to see my doctor’s face when I see her the 21st.  She will be stunned at the improvement.  I think she was pretty much resigned to watching me gradually become debilitated.

Come on, sunshine!

Come on, sunshine!

I can’t see the weight loss except in my face.  I have cheekbones again!  Hope the weight loss moves on down to my muffin top soon!  😀

It is another very dreary rainy day.  It was so bad earlier, I wondered how the Casita would work as an Ark.

The weather really makes me a little envious of my blogger friends who are on the road to seek the sun.

I hope all of you are leaving the nasty weather behind, and I am so looking forward to seeing your photos and accounts of your travels!

……. It cleared up, the sun came out, and it got up into the 60’s after I posted the above!  My mood just skyrocketed up!  🙂

You are on the right path. Keep up your resolve!

    • Alex, I am so stoked at the improvement! Knowing my life depends on my taking care of myself is a superb motivation!

  2. It’s gray and threatening rain here today but ….. wish you were here! Congrats on those impressive numbers.

    • I saw your post. I am still laughing at that first photo of the scenic drive!

Just got an email from Peggy. Wish I was there, too!

  3. That is wonderful…gosh has to make you feel great. Start losing and sure its helps with motivation…dinner looked delicious! Just hit 70 here…nice to have some sun! The first to gain, the last to loose they say…cheekbones again! SWEET!

    • Hope it’s in the 70’s when we get south in spring!

Yes, I glanced in the mirror yesterday and saw cheekbones and it shocked me! 🙂

Great Progress! I am trying to figure out how to do a low Carb while living with a vegetarian and also someone who is going low fat!!!! I am doomed!

    • klb, it IS hard to do it when you are the only one in the house low carbing. I was doing that for a while, but when hubby saw my health improvement, he decided he wanted to, too. In fact, he was just showing off his blood pressure numbers to me. 🙂

If you do decide to go for it, you can get a lot of support on a low carb forum. These two are my favorites:

      http://forum.lowcarber.org/index.php

      http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/

One of the strategies some use is to cook a main dish that you both can eat, then fix separate side dishes. It’s tough, but not impossible. 🙂

I was just released from the hospital. I was in because I have COPD and had pneumonia. Was on IV antibiotics and steroids for 5 days. I am also diabetic and the steroids cause my diabetes to go haywire. My blood sugar has been over the moon for days…so uncomfortable. So I am very interested in low carb and inspired by your posts. I need to lose weight, bring down my blood pressure, stabilize my blood sugar. Heal my lungs as best I can which means avoiding cold air. I will check out the forums you recommended. Thank you for the inspiration.

    • Ginger, I also have COPD and had pneumonia not long ago. I also was on steroids. They blew me up like a balloon and made me miserable. I was in pretty bad shape.

Both of those forums have a diabetes sub forum. You should be able to find a lot of help and a lot of support from people who know exactly what’s going on with you. Since I didn’t have full-blown diabetes, I didn’t spend much time reading them.

Almost everyone who sticks with low carbing for any length of time reports noteworthy progress.

Wishing you all the very best.

Way to go! I’m thrilled to hear of your success with the low carb eating plan. I never say “diet” It’s a great way to get your numbers down and live a healthier lifestyle.

    • Thanks, Marcia! It’s not a diet to us, either! We feel that we splurge every time we eat.

I’m expecting to see another pound gone within a couple of days, too. That is such a thrill! 🙂

Hip hip hooray. If I could do one of those cheerleading jumps I would.

    • I never could do those jumps — or cartwheels. But I sure can do high, leaping, wonderfully graceful ones in my mind! You can join me! 🙂

Congratulations! And it is great thatyou are blogging about the low carb success….know that it will inspire others.
We ‘ve been at Catalina Mtn forabout 24 hhhours and I am feeling more human. It was a rough trip…most ly due to the cold, the cat and my allergies. Hope to start posting some soonn.. Using the tablet keyboard and I give up on correcting the mistaaakes. are you leaving for FL in a couple of weeks or is your sister coming to you?

    • Lynne, I sure do empathize with you about feeling more human after a rough trip. They are all rough trips to me! I only put up with it to get to go where I want to be! I’m so glad you got some down time to rest up a bit..

I forgot about your allergies! I can’t BELIEVE that! And here I was cheering on your bringing Sylvester along! I am so sorry! A cat in a Casita with carpeted walls is not a good thing when you have allergies!

Lynne, we will be here until spring. Probably late March. I missed out on a a meeting with Kim, Peggy and another new friend in Florida this week. I don’t handle cold well at all, so have decided to wait until I can reasonably count on warm weather when we do get out.

We had to abandon our triip to Texas to see my sister when we got so sick in Meridian. We turned around and came back home. I probably won’t see her again until some time next summer. We’ll met somewhere halfway because I just don’t do long distance any more.

  9. Yes, this weather is awful!!! I am so glad it finally stopped raining this afternoon. We actually saw the sun for a time!!!
I am so excited for you…9 pounds but also the health benefits are amazing… great blood pressure and blood glucose levels. I bet you feel and look awesome!

    • Gerri, I don’t know why it was so hard for me to decide to start low carbing again. Once I made the commitment, it has been a joy. I have not missed wheat or sugar at all! Before when I low carbed I always was looking for bread substitute recipes and my soul just craved bread!

I think the difference is that this time is my health. I know if I stay on low carb I can get out, study mushrooms, photograph beautiful places and LIVE while I live. If I start eating garbage again, my health will deteriorate and I am toast.

So since my commitment is so complete, I am just loving exploring all the delicious food I can prepare for Ron and me. We feel like we are eating like kings and queens!

No, I don’t look awesome at all. I look obese! But I’m making steady, barely perceptible progress. I’m hoping I can begin to see a real difference by the time we head to Florida in spring. 🙂

  10. Glad things are looking up for you on all fronts. Amazing what your new lifestyle has done for you. Keep up the good work.

I’m happy to see that not only are you making such great progress, but that you have a smile on your face and great food at your table..can’t get much better that….keep on posting….especially those menus, as we’re starting to try those….Horst sends

    • Horst, thank you for letting me know that you are interested in the low carb posts. I have deliberately not been posting much about them because I figured most people would not be interested and I didn’t want to bore them.

Since I now know of a couple of people who are interested, I’ll start posting more about them.

      I really appreciate the feedback!

  14. Wonderful!! I love it!! 😀 Keep that up!!!
