The Woods are Wet

A tiny stream flows to the right of the old stump

Our rain ended Tuesday evening.  Since the drought had been so severe, I expected mushrooms to go crazy after a good, soaking rain.  So Ron and I combed the woods for them today… but found nothing!

Moss and lichen cover the base of this old tree.

When we were camping at Allatoona Lake, we had two days of rain.  Five days after the rain stopped, puffballs and meadow mushrooms started sprouting up.  So since our rain this week ended two days ago, maybe I’m just too impatient.

We’ll try again Saturday.

Cute lichen

I did notice that the wild crabapples put on a bumper crop this year.  There were thousands of them on the ground.

I used to made apple butter with them, but our crabapples are so bitter that the apple butter was never very good.

There were thousands of crabapples on the ground.

Meanwhile, we’re excited about the upcoming Casita rally in Cherokee.  Our biggest concern is hoping that the dogs behave themselves.  🙂

  2. Don’t worry! Everyone will have at least one dog, except us!

    No signs of mushrooms here, either.

    • What I’m mainly worried about is Sheba. She is still such a puppy and her emotions run away with her and she gets out of control when she meets people. She thinks everyone is just waiting for her to jump on them and play with them. A no-tug leash helps — a little. 🙂

    No puppy….you can visit with all of them and then send them home like Grandma :O) Hope you landed in a huge field of mushrooms by surprise!!!

    • We bought new crates after Sheba chewed up the new fabric ones. That way we can leave the dogs in the trailer and run away from home for a couple of hours at a time!

      Still waiting for that huge field of mushrooms. What a very special wish! 🙂

  4. Looking forward to your rally posts.

    I’m a Casita-ite at heart. We owned one for a couple of years. And Casita folks are the best, aren’t they? One day I’d like to attend an egg rally even though I drive a B. But the body is fiberglass, does that count? ;-}

    • Kim, you would be more than welcome at the egg rallies. And I would LOVE to get a peek inside your beautiful B!
